Alagnak Lodge
Bristol Bay, Alaska |

Harry with chum salmon |
We have been taking groups to the Alagnak
Lodge for seven years, and due to the popularity of this trip, now take 2 or 3
groups each year. Alagnak Lodge is located on the Alagnak River
a few miles upstream from where it empties into the sea. This desirable
location insures that as the salmon runs occur the fish are at their
strongest having just arrived from saltwater. The fish are bright often
referred to as "chromers".
The lodge can house twenty rods and is usually filled with returning fisherman
who have enjoyed success there in years past. The dependable seasonal runs
of salmon begin in June when the King Salmon return. The season closes with
the Silver Salmon run continuing into September. You will enjoy also
Rainbow Trout, Grayling, Chum Salmon, Pink and Sockeye Salmon fishing
depending on your choice of dates for your visit. Book early! It's a well
known fact in the industry that the close proximity to the saltwater, along
with professional guiding and excellent well maintained equipment make this
lodge superlative. |
| Flyouts are available to see the bears as they feed in the Brooks River, or
to target other species. These are very affordable and exciting but not
necessary to have all the fishing one could want. The migrating fish pass
right by the lodge on their way to the spawning grounds and can readily be
caught from lodge's dock. Just upriver from the lodge by boat you can visit an area known as the
Braids. Here the river is broken up into many small streams which create
pocket water where the fish gather. It is well worth it to make the trip
there to fish since on the way many opportunities to view and photograph
wildlife. Eagles, moose, beavers and of course the bears are seen frequently
in this area. |

Fish on! The lodge can be seen in the background. |

Silver salmon

Hanover Flyfishers offers a five day seminar trip each summer during the
Chum Salmon run in late July. These fish average six to twelve pounds with
larger trophy size taken each year. You will be supplied with all your flies
by the lodge. I will personally demonstrate and teach with hands on methods
how they are correctly used. Our casting demonstrations on the dock have
proved to be quite helpful in making your trip a success. |
|
Each evening in the lodge's main dining area we have informal conversations
where we share experiences of the day and chat about all the worldwide
destinations where I host trips yearly. |
