Hanover Fly Fishers organizes yearly expeditions to Northern Amazonia each January. In order to assure the success of these trips we have solicited the expertise of Garrett VeneKlasen who has operated in this region successfully for many years.
We select the river each year after a study of water levels. Our preferred departure normally is January. The fish of the region average 3-20 lbs and take flies readily. Our best log book record is 122 fish for 2 anglers in 1 day!
We stay in tented barges . Each barge has a shower, 2 beds, overhead fans, a vanity sink and camp style toilet. Two anglers share each barge.
We are equipped and ready to move the camp should water levels change in the river. This maneuver is done while you are fishing and does not impact your fishing time.
Hanover Fly Fishers suggests you use an 8 or 9 wt rod, stout leaders and flies from a list we will furnish in the pre-trip package.Spin casting and bait casting tackle is very effective. Guidelines for this are also addressed in the pre-trip information.
Amazonia is a paradise in temperature ranges during our visit, cool in the evenings and hot midday with little rain. Insects surprisingly are no problem. The trip is full hosted with a bilingual guide ensuring a comfortable and safe adventure.
